Jesus Revealed The Father's Name:
The name LORD or Jehovah means "The Self-existent One who reveals Himself". From the genesis of man God has been doing exactly that, revealing Himself. Through out the Scriptures we find various and numerous revelations of the LORD. We are given glimpses of God's vast person.
The ultimate and climatic revelation of Jehovah has come to us through the Lord Jesus Christ.
Heb. 1:3 - The Son is the radiance of God's glory, and THE EXACT representation of His being.
Col. 1:15 - He is the image of the invisable God
Col. 2:9 For in Christ ALL the FULLNESS of the Deity lives in bodily form
[Amp.] Col. 2:9 - For in Him the whole fullness of Deity (the Godhead), continues to dwell in bodily form - giving complete expression of the divine nature.
The fullness of the Deity! Deity means:
* the Divine essence of Godhood
* the Personality of God
* the attributes of God
* His Divine nature and properties
This fullness of God in Christ is something that God fully purposed.
"For it pleased the Father to have ALL His FULLNESS dwell in Him", (Col. 1;19).
The light of this truth brings clarity of meaning to the statement Jesus made to Philip in John Gospel. Philip asked the question so many of have asked. "Lord show us the Father and that will be enough for us". (Jn. 14:8) to this Jesus says, "Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say,'Show us the Father'? (Jn. 14:9)
As Jesus was talking to the Father He said, "I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do." (Jn. 17:4) He went on to say in the 6th. verse, "I have revealed you to those you me out of the world,"
It would seem that part of the work given to Jesus to accomplish on earth was that of revealing the Father to the disciples.
The Amplified Bible helps to explain what "reveal" actually means in Jn. 17:6, "I have MANIFEST Your NAME I have revealed Your very Self, Your real Self."
Jesus repeats this statement again in Jn. 17:26 "I have made you know to them"
[Amp] - "I made Your name known to them and revealed Your Character and Your very Self"
The name of the LORD (Jehovah) first revealed to Moses in Ex. 34:5-7 was fully expressed in and through the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus was not a vague refection of the Father He was and is the exact representation of His being. The Father has expressed His heart and person through Jesus. "The Word was made flesh and made His dwelling among us", (Jn. 1:14)
