The "LORD" Revealed To Isaiah
A VISION OF THE LORD:
Isaiah had a vision of the LORD and with it came revelation of the One sitting on the throne in heaven.
Isa. 6:1 - 5 - In the year that King Uz-ziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and His train filled the temple. Above it stood the seraphims:each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain twain he did fly. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hostes: the whole earth is full of His glory. And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke. Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.
There's little doubt God had given the prophet a vision of His throne in the heavenlies and the One who was sitting on it. Isaiah's response is so typical. When ever we're given, even, the slightest glimpse of the glory of the LORD, we're undone. In the light of God our uncleaniness is exposed. In seeing God for who He is, we see ourselves for who we are. Repentance and cleansing follows and we find ourselves being commissioned of the LORD to represent Him and His cause. Our God is an amazing God!
SPIRITUAL IMPLICATIONS:
The vision of the LORD (Jehovah) that Isaiah received is referred to by the apostle John in his gospel. What he says, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, about Isaiah's vision will have profound implications on our concept of the "Godhead".
We understand that the "LORD" He is God.
Isa. 37:20 - Now, O LORD our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms on earth may know that you ALONE, O LORD, are God.
Deut. 4:35 - ... the LORD is God; besides Him there is no other.
1 Chr. 17:20 - There is no one like you, O LORD, and there is no God but you, as we have with our ears.
Isa. 43:10, 11 - "You are my witnesses," declares the LORD, "and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after. I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior.
Isa. 44:6 - This is what the LORD says - Israels's King and Redeemer, the LORD Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God.
This is the Jehovah that revealed himself to Moses, stating that the LORD (Jehovah) was His name, (Ex. 34:5-7). This is the One who inspired Moses to say, "Hear, O Irael: The LORD our God, the LORD is one." (Deut. 6:4)
(KJV) - Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD.
(Amp) - Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord - the only Lord.
From the Scriptures listed above we conclude that the LORD (Jehovah) is God alone, that He is ONE, and that beside Him there is no God. The concept of the LORD being ONE GOD is the concept found in the Word of God. In the light of Jn. 12:41- Isaiah said this because HE SAW JESUS' GLORY and spoke about him. What was it Isaiah saw in his vision of the LORD? We don't have to guess or use our imagination we,re told exactly what it was he saw! He saw JESUS' GLORY.
An Amazing Thing!
Did you know that the teaching of "Three Gods" (the trinity as it is called) is not an original doctrine of the Church? For quite awhile I didn't! It's amazing how many Scriptures there are stating, there's only one God, and that this ONE has the name Jehovah (LORD) and yet the concept of the ONENESS of God has been so attached over the years as to even be said it's cultish. In light of the Scriptures, I really have to wonder what the LORD has say about that.
Did you know that the doctrine of the "Godhead" was overhauled by Constintine, the emperor of Rome, in 325 AD? The Nicea Creed stated the "Godhead" consisted of "two persons". One the Father and two the Son. Prior to that the early church, and especially the apostles, who we must remember where Jews, understood the God of the Old Testament to be Jehovah. They only ever believed God to be One. That's what God had told them numerous times throughout Israel's history. So why should they believe anything other than what God had told them to be true.
Did you know that when Theodocius became the Emperor of Rome that he further overhauled the "Godhead"? Not satisfied with the two person "Godhead", he, in 381 AD., in what is called the Athanasian Creed, changed it to , "Three Persons". This is absolutely true! This really is how the doctrine of the "trinity" has come down to us. "God in three persons blessed trinity" was birthed in Rome! Roman Emperors if you can belive it! It's amazing! These weren't even Godly Spirit filled men!
It's never easy to have our theology shaken up, but we need to seriously look at this thing! We need to go back to the Scriptures and find out what they say. If it means I have to adjust my thinking of the "Godhead", then so be it. What's important is that truth prevail.
IS THIS JUST ANOTHER ISSUE:
Are we just making an issue of this or is there a worthy cause? Any time God's people receive and believe something that did not originate in the heart of God and is not revealed and supported in the Word of God we have great reason to be concerned.
Church history is full of doctrines made by men. That's not to say some are good ideas. They're just of God that's all. The whole "Reformation", headed up by Luther, was the result of the Church having been in the death grips of humanism. Is "justification by faith" an issue? Is it worth upholding? Yes! Why? Because it's the Biblically sound truth. Is "The Fullness of God in Christ" worth upholding? YES! Why? Because it's Biblically sound.
