INTRODUCTION:
When starting to investigate the God of the Bible it's not too long until you're confronted with what is commonly called the "God-head"; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. As with most spiritual things we all still "see but a poor reflection as in a mirror" and until Christ comes we'll only "know in part", (1 Cor. 13:12). However, we're still encouraged by the Holy Spirit to, "Study and be eager and do your utmost to present yourself to God approved, a workman who has no cause to be ashamed, correctly analyzing and accurately dividing - rightly handling and skillfully teaching - the Word of truth, (2 Tim. 2:15 Amp.)
When it comes to the "God-head" there's still a good amount of controversy among theologians and it does at times become an "issue" with very strong and deep emotions. To some their concept of the "God-head" is three very distinct persons. Others understand there to be one God who has revealed Himself in three ways, and still others, at the far end of the spectrum, understand there to be only Jesus. I would very much like to think, that a great study like the "Names and Tiles of God", could be embraced by all God's people without offence. I want to say, it's not at all our intention to offend, or, to prove some people right and others wrong.
The purpose of this study is to Scripturally expose the great heart and person of our God, with the intent that our hearts will be touched, resulting in a much greater love and appreciation for the Only True and Living God.
The study of Jehovah, the names and titles of God and person of Jesus, is one the most rewarding studies a child of God can ever be involved with. We have an awesome God, just how awesome is revealed through the many names and titles associated with Him. An open heart to God is always of benefit when studying the Word.
The Word must always remain the final authority for all that we believe.
The name Jehovah is used over 6800 times in the "Old Testament".
Jehovah is the "Old Testament", personal name of the Almighty God
