Divine Delay
God's promises are absolute as is His eternal Word. Heb 6:18 - So God has given
both His promise and His oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is
impossible for God to lie
. Therefore, we who have fled to Him for refuge can have
great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.
The Believer's present
and future hope rest solid in this truth. The entire Kingdom of God is being built on
the foundation of His eternal Word. Your "now relationship" with God has a secure
footing on this same foundation.
Psalms 119:89,90 -Your eternal word, O LORD,
stands firm in heaven.
90 Your faithfulness extends to every generation, as
enduring as the earth You created.
It's very important to see that God's faithfulness
is essential to the security of His entire Kingdom. This has great ramifications as it
pertains to you as a New Believer. Think about this for a bit. God will remain faithful
to you because He remains faithful to His Word. God has chosen to full accept the
responsibility of fulfilling His Word and He is fully capable of fulfilling this
responsibility. This is the truth in which Abraham found peace and rest.

Rom. 4:20,21 - Abraham never wavered in believing God's promise. In fact, his faith
grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God.
21 He was fully convinced
that God is able to do whatever He promises
.

There are many promises in Scripture that the Lord has given you and for this
reason it will be helpful to your spiritual progress if you understand how God works
as it pertains to promises He makes. There's a "promise principle" for you to see,
and as you grow to understand this principle it will help in maintaining peace during
times when it seems that God has forgotten all about His promises to you. I'm
going to quote from the Amplified version of the Bible because I feel it gives the
clearest picture of the "promise principle".
Rom 4:17 - As it is written, I have made
you the father of many nations.
[He was appointed our father] in the sight of God in
Whom he believed, Who gives life to the dead and speaks of the nonexistent
things that
[He has foretold and promised] as if they [already] existed. [Gen. 17:5.]
OK now let's walk through is. God speaks of things as though they exist before
they are materialized in the physical world. The clearest example of this is seen
through Israel and Canaan Land. Israel was in slavery in Egypt when God sent them Moses to tell them that He was going to deliver them and that he had given
them Canaan Land to live in. The problem with this was. Canaan Land was still
possessed by very strong warring nations. What is important to see is that God
had already called Israel's possession of Canaan done! He saw it as a completed
project. Canaan was theirs! That declaration is known as the promise. All God's
promises to His people He sees as done, we don't. To us they may still be
unfulfilled promises.

What should our attitude be to God's promises that are yet unfulfilled or yet
unrealized by us? Like Abraham we need to look beyond the present to the future,
beyond to present of the yet unfulfilled to the fulfilled. When faith is active in our
hearts then the only thing that separates the promise of God from the fulfillment is
that thing we call time. Time is were we have our problems as it pertains to fulfilled
promises. We often times struggle with "divine delay"! We what and generally
expect things to happen immediately. At least her in the Western world we do. It's
how we've been brought up. Everything is instant! Well sooner or latter in your
spiritual journey you'll have to learn who the Leader is and who's the follower.
God's the Boss on this life project and when push comes to shove He calls the
shots and there's going to be times when you are going to have to wait for God's
promises to be fulfilled. They will be fulfilled as you remain in a faith relationship
with Jesus Christ.

Here's a great example of "divine delay". Jesus told his disciples to get in their boat
and head over to the other side of the lake while He stayed alone to pray. They did
exactly as they were told. They couldn't have been anymore in God's will than they were. They were living in strict obedience to Jesus command. Things seemed
fine for a while and then suddenly a wind came up and they were all at risk of
loosing their lives, so it would have appeared through human reasoning. Jesus was
aware that this was happening yet He did not come immediately to their rescue.
He waited. It was at the third watch, the darkest hour of the night when Jesus
chose to come to them. This is not uncommon of God. It seems He chooses to
wait until we're absolutely convinced that there is no human way out. God has
been know to wait many times until we're absolutely convinced that God is our
only way out. He does this to build in us a solid foundation of trust. To trust in
anything or anyone else other than the Lord will only lead to disillusionment and
despair. For us to experience rock solid confidence is MUST find it security in
God's faithfulness
. Ps. 37:34 - Put your hope in the LORD. Travel steadily along
His path. He will honor you by giving you the land
(promises God made to you).
You will see the wicked (wickedness of impatience) destroyed. NOTE: (italics are
mine)
Just because doesn't come within my personal preferences doesn't God has
chosen to be unfaithful to me. Your spiritual journey will embrace times when your
faith is tried, even to the limit but God ALWAYS remains a faithful God, ALWAYS.
